Natural Dyeing By Kristy Bishop from Drill Films on Vimeo.

I am constantly experimenting, researching, and learning about the endless possibilities of natural dyeing.  Natural dyes have opened my eyes to the world around me.

Shibori is one my favorite techniques to use when dyeing fabric.  It is a form of Japanese tie-dye in which different methods of folding, binding, clamping, wrapping, and tying are used to create  patterns when dyed.

The types of dyes that I prefer to use are natural and more specifically, gathered locally in Charleston, SC.  My sources include roadside growth, gardens, and luckily I have a couple of friends who just so happen to be florists.  They supply me with plants that aren't native/invasive here.  My favorite dyes are onion skins, eucalyptus, and tickseed.
